At the Tamil trailer launch of Manikarnika, Hindi actress Kangana Ranaut who was also known for Tamil audiences with her debut Tamil film ‘Dhaam Dhoom’ said: “I feel fortunate that a film like Manikarnika happened in my career and I am proud of it. Most of my films deal about modern relationships but this one is all about a rebel lady who fought for her country. I never did a patriotic film in my career which I consider as a shame”.
Kangana said that action sequences in Manikarnika were quite challenging. “I was only fifty kilos so couldn’t even complete thirty minutes of stunt practice at a stretch. Later with rigorous training, able to pull off all the stunts in the film”.
Besides plays Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, Kangana also directed a part of the film. “The action scenes were shot by Krish and after he opted out of the film, I directed the drama part. It was quite a challenging process as I have to quickly come back and check the monitor after every shot. As I spent more time reading the script and knew more about my character, managed to pull it off”.
The film’s producer Kamal Jain said that as Rani Lakshmi Bai is a well known historical figure, he feels that the film has a good scope to score big in Tamil and Telugu box office.
Manikarnika is all set to release in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi on January 25.
