The Kannada film stars opposed the imposition of 12.5 percent of service tax on the earnings of film actors who exceed an income of Rs. 10 lakhs annually.

A meeting held on Monday at the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce headed by Rebel Star Ambareesh saw the presence of many top stars like Puneet Raj Kumar, Darshan, Sudeep, Vijaya Raghavendra, Sanjjana Galrani, Neha Patil, Doddanna, Rockline Venkatesh and Hema Choudhary.

Ambareesh said that the film actors do not have a regular income and they earn only when they are in demand. If there is no demand for them, their earnings will stop.

"The savings made during the times when they earn acts as a buffer when they don`t have a role. The Kannada film artists will whole heartedly oppose the imposition of service tax on earnings", said Ambareesh.

Ambareesh said that the Kannada film industry will observe a protest on 10th January 2012, which will include taking out a silent procession to Raj Bhavan to present a memorandum to Central Government.

Already the Tamil and Telugu film stars have expressed their opposition to the service tax.
