At the press meet of Podhu Nalam Karuthi, the film’s director Seiyon alleged that despite getting full remuneration, comedy actor Karunakaran who played as one of the lead roles in the film didn’t attend the media interaction. The event was also attended by Mysskin and Vasanthabalan.

Later the film’s co-producer filed a police complaint against Karunakaran and also submitted the phone call conversation with the Soodhu Kavvum actor. In the conversation, Karunakaran said that he will show both the co-producer and director about his influence in Madurai and also said that the makers shouldn’t have deteriorated his name. The director and co-producer also alleged that after the celebrity show of the film, a Kanthu Vatti gang (loan sharks) attacked them for speaking against Karunakaran.

Now, in his official statement, Karunakaran said that only due to time constraints, he couldn’t attend the press meet of the film. “For the February 4 event, the team called me only on February 1 around 9.30 PM. I had prior commitments and returned to Chennai only on February 8. I have no connections with the Kanthu Vatti gang and I was not brought up like that. My dad Kalidaas was a retired Central Government officer. I forayed into the film industry through short films so I’m not someone who ignores new producers and technicians. I wish the team all the best!”.
