K V Anand is back with Kavan, his sixth film as director. This action packed romantic entertainer is produced by AGS Entertainments and has Vijay Sethupathy, T Rajendar and Madonna Sebastian in the lead with music by Hip Hop Tamizha. The audio was out on Feb 12 and in this exclusive chat with Sridevi Sreedhar, the man of few words opens up.
The audio is out and the initial feedback is overwhelming. Your comments
Yes, I am happy that the audio is working wonders and everyone likes the songs. There are five songs and all have come out well. The response to the song teaser of Oxygen is very positive (smiles) Watch Oxygen song right here:
So far, Harris Jayaraj was the music director in all your films. Why did you decide to work outside your comfort zone?
It was a deliberate decision that we do it that way. Still, Harris is a good friend and we both wanted a break from each other. Moreover AGS who are the producers have already had a hit album with Hip Hop Tamizha in Thani Oruvan and they suggested his name. Thankfully, we struck an instant chord and all the songs have come out well.
Oxygen is a very melodious number and where was it shot?
We shot the song near Lonavala hill station near Pune. It is only between October 10th and 16th that the yellow flowers you see in the song blooms and Maharashtra government is preserving the place as a tourist destination. So we had to get government permission to shoot there and also gave in writing that flowers will not be crushed or spoilt during shoot. The outcome was so satisfying. It was better than any foreign location.
But normally you shoot songs in some exotic foreign locations?
The script of Kavan did not need that. It is a simple story of simple people who live in Sowkarpet and T Nagar who cannot dream of romance in exotic locales (laughs).
How many songs are there?
There are five songs and three among them is told against the story. One is the introduction for characters in the film.
But you have not told me what Kavan is all about?
(Smiles) All I can tell you is that Kavan is a take on David and Goliath. How a small guy like David takes on the mighty Goliath is the simplest way of putting it. You must by now have guessed who plays David, but don’t ask me who Goliath is, as it will be the surprise. You can take a guess. There is action, emotion, songs, romance and comedy packed in a complete family entertainer. Watch it unfold on the big screen as it gets ready for a March end release.
How was it working with Vijay Sethupathy, T Rajendar and Madonna?
Vijay Sethupathy is the most natural actor with whom I have worked so far. He is solid, spontaneous, unique and unconventional. He is a man among all the boys I’ve worked with. He is a director’s delight and so is Madonna. She is very talented and has a very expressive face. And TR is a riot. So much of energy, be it dance, dialogue or comedy he is perfect and the biggest highlight in Kavan.
Why is it that you only do films for AGS?
Again, it is not intentional. I have a great comfort level with them. They give me complete creative freedom and never interfere any time during the making of the film. I am also accountable as I try to finish the film in the given budget and so far I have done three continuous films with AGS. They are wonderful team to work with.
When are you planning to release the film?
Already post production is in full swing and Hip Hop Tamizha has completed RR for first half. We plan to censor the film before March 15 and it will be a big summer release.
