Sources say that the Kerala Government is planning to impose 15% Entertainment Tax above GST for the other language films (OLF)  in their state.

Kerala Government is said to be tempted by the double taxation that exists in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka where the distributors of other language films pay additional entertainment tax above the GST ever since the Central Government introduced ‘One Tax, One Nation’ scheme.

If Kerala Government imposes double taxation, it would be a big blow for Tamil biggies, especially films starring leading actors like Vijay, Vikram and Suriya who have a strong market in the Malayalam speaking state.

In a recent interaction, Tamil Film Producers Council’s President Vishal said that a producer only gets 40-50% of the total gross amount because of the double tax burden in Tamil Nadu.
