By now Lijo Jose Pellissery's Amen has attained a cult status in Malayalam.
The film, starring Fahadh Faasil, Indrajith and Swati Reddy, has been well appreciated especially for its outstanding technical perfection and for some spectacular performances.
But there have been widespread comments, rumours and reports in the media about the film's uncanny resemblance to the director Dusan Milic's 2006 Serbian film, Guca or Gucha, which has been translated as 'Distant Trumpet'.
Now the two films have some similarities for sure. Like the band competition and the romance, for instance. But does that take away the merits of Amen, which looks thoroughly rooted in Kerala and has a distinct local flavor?
Well, you can debate on that.
