Ravi had a dream debut in Jayam produced by his dad “Editor” Mohan and directed by brother M.Raja. The film went on to be a blockbuster and a star was born. He came to be better known as ‘Jayam’ Ravi and was the darling of teeny boppers and family audience, a rare combination.

Be the first to wish Jayam Ravi on his birthday

Ravi’s impressive height and pleasing manners proved that he is an actor with great potential. After the super success of Jayam, Ravi waited for more than a year for his second film to happen. It was M.Kumaran Son Of Mahalakshmi that proved once again that the young hero was no flash in the pan. This family entertainer which was a super hit also featured among the top ten hits of 2004.

Ravi had lived in a filmi atmosphere throughout his life, even when he was in school; he had decided to become an actor. But his father advised him to get into cinema after graduation. So after a degree in visual communication from the prestigious Loyola College, Ravi enrolled with the Kishore Namit Kapur acting institute in Mumbai, for a formal, short-term training in acting.

Ravi is also a trained Bharatanatyam dancer under Nalini Balakrishnan and had his arangetram while at school. Ravi attributes his success to his dad “Editor” Mohan who is a dominant force in his life. Says Ravi: “My dad, brother and me- we share the same wavelength. Put us in different rooms and ask us our opinions on a particular subject ... most of the time our reactions would be similar”.

After Dass and Mazhai for outside banners, Ravi’s Something Something Unakkum Enakkum(2006), Deepavali (2007) and Santhosh Subramaniam(2008) turned out to be super hits.

And last week his Dhaam Dhoom directed by late director Jeeva has taken the best ever opening and the city theatres recorded a 95 percent collections and averaged 85 percent in other parts of Tamilnadu. It is a very good opening and the word-of-mouth for this action based thriller set in Russia is very encouraging. No one has a bad word and the youth audiences are falling in love with the lead pair Ravi and Kangana Ranaut, their romance and foot tapping songs of Harris Jayaraj.
