In Tamil Nadu, Pongal is being celebrated with a lot of fanfare and two big releases are Vijay’s Jilla and Ajith’s Veeram. Similarly in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh Sankranthi is being celebrated with a lot of festivity and two big releases are Mahesh Babu’s  1 Nenokkadine and Ramcharan’s Yevadu.

These four south Indian films have to share the screens outside of their state in US and Karnataka markets where Telugu heroes have an edge over Tamil heroes. But in their home state local heroes call the shots.

In Tamil Nadu Telugu films have a huge appeal. However this time due to Jilla and Veeram blocking maximum screens in Tamil Nadu, the Telugu releases 1 Nenokkadne and Yevadu are finding it difficult to procure screens in TN, mainly Chennai market.

Both the Telugu biggies are being distributed by Sathyam Cinemas, who during Christmas distributed Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 in Hindi and Tamil successfully in TN. Remember Dhoom 3 emerged winner and got nearly 200 screens in a pitched battle against Biriyani and Endrendrum Punnagai.

However, Sathyam Cinemas could only get 35 screens for 1 Nenokkadine and 16 screens for Yevadu in TN. Mahesh Babu’s last release the super hit Dookudu released in 67 screens in the state a few months back.
