Dileep is 50 percent of Mohanlal: Priyadarshan
By Moviebuzz
Priyadarshan who has done more than 50 films in Malayalam has made a name for himself with his light-hearted comedies. His pairing with Mohanlal in 32 films in many ways brought out the best comic side of the actor. Who can forget Chitram, Kilukkam and Thenmavin Kombathu some of the best comedies in the history of Malayalam cinema?

Priyadarshan has also made a name for himself in Bollywood with hits like Hera Pheri and Hungama and now the ace director is set for the release of his Onam release Vettam with Dileep in the lead. He spoke to Sify.com in an excusive interview on the eve of the release of his film at his studio in Chennai. Excerpts:

So what is Vettam all about?
Vettam, like my earlier films is a rollicking comedy and is about two bitter enemies turning lovers, mistaken identities, a bit of slapstick, and of course melodious music. It is a clean family entertainer with no vulgar scenes or dialogues.

How was it working with Dileep?
He is a through professional. I think our combination will click as the audience are sure to have a blast.

You are working with Dileep for the first time. How would you compare him with Mohanlal?
In comedy Mohanlal is as good or even better than Jim Carrey or Adam Saddler. Dileep is 50 percent of what Mohanlal is, and this makes him second best in the business.

Why did you switch over from Mohanlal to Dileep?
It was deliberate. Today Dileep is a big draw with the audience in Kerala. He is what Mohanlal was, about 10 years back. And more over Dileep suited the character that I had in mind and thus he was cast. As a director I also needed a change and Vettam has shaped out well.

So are you sure about the box-office performance of the film?
It will work well with our audience. The comedy timing of Dileep along with the cast of Kalabhavan Mani, Jagathy, Janardhanan, Innocent, Mamukoya, Haneefa and others are going to bring the house down. The new girl Bhavana is terrific and she has done a great job. The music is also good. I am sure that it will entertain everyone.

What is your film after Vettam?
Vettam will be my last film in comic genre and I am planning to do something different with Mohanlal in the lead.

But you are doing more Hindi films in future. Please comment.
Yes that is because making films in Bollywood is more lucrative. My next project Huchul will release for Diwali with Akshay, Kareena and Paresh Rawal. I am also doing another film with Salman Khan and Kareena for which shooting is starting in Spain and it is a remake from one of my hit films in Malayalam.
