"I don't like to be typecast": Sunil
By Moviebuzz
Sunil came into the film industry as an assistant to Rajeev Kumar, one of Indiaís noted ad-film maker and cameramen. He preferred to work behind the camera but was cast in world renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnanís Nizhalkuthu.

His second film 4 The People was the biggest blockbuster of 2004, a film that was a path breaking one in which he plays a police officer. In Sunilís latest film Achuvinte Amma, he was pitted against two most talented artists Urvashi and Meera Jasmine.

Sunil is now all set to do the Bengali version of 4 The People, a rare distinction for a newcomer and his next release will be Annorikkal opposite Kavya Madhavan. In this interview to Sify.com he opens up:

How did you enter films?
After finishing my college I wanted to become a cameraman. I became an assistant to noted ad filmmaker and cameraman, Rajeev Menon and have worked with him for many advertisements and a film Morning Raga .

Then how did you become an actor?
Adoor Gopalakrishnan used to visit Rajeev Menonís studio and once I casually asked him for a break in his film. And my luck changed- as I got to playa role in his critically acclaimed Nizhalkuthu.

But it was 4 ThePeople that was the turning point in your career?
Yes. It was a dream come true for any youngster to be part of a film that was a sort of trendsetter and blockbuster in Malayalam. The dubbed version in Tamil and Telugu were also hits. I am also doing the Bengali version of the film to be directed by Saroj Padi. I will be also doing the sequel to the film titled By The People in Malayalam.

But why did you take a break of one year after the release of 4 The People
Actually nothing interesting came my way. All the films that came to me were modeled on the police officer role in 4 The People and I was not interested to be typecast. Then Satyan sirís Achuvinte Amma happened. I think, it is a great honour for me to work with Urvashi and Meera, two talented actresses.

What is your next film?
It is an off-beat film titled Annorikkal directed by Sarath Chandran Wyanad. I play Benny who is in love with Ponnu played by Kavya. It is a very interesting character that gave me ample scope to perform.
