Mani Ratnam’s Kadal which released on February 1, is a colossal failure. Mani’s production concern Madras Talkies had sold it to Gemini Film Circuit (GFC) for a whopping amount.
GFC had sold its theatrical rights to Mannan Films for Rs 16 Crore. But the film bombed so badly that it would be a miracle if Mannan Films recover Rs 2 to Rs 3 Crore from theatricals. On the fourth day of the film’s release Mannan Films protested outside Mani’s office in Alwarpet.
Finally in frustration, Manan Films has filed a complaint on Wednesday (Feb 27) with the Chennai city police, against the director, for the heavy losses incurred.
Madras Talkies say that they have no contract with Mannan Films as they had already sold the rights to GFC.
Meanwhile, a petition was filed at Abhiramapuram police station, on behalf of Mani Ratnam, seeking protection for his house.
The commissioner of police has offered Mani Ratnam, personal police protection.
