May 1 – Sold Out!

May 1, the world over is celebrated as ‘workers day’ and is a public holiday. It is the peak of the summer season box-office. This year May 1, falls on a Wednesday, and Kollywood is licking its lips in anticipation for a 5-day weekend.

The first to book the May 1 date was Vasanth who announced his Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal (MPMK) starring Arjun, Cheran, Vimal, Bhanu would release on that day. The film has peppy music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Next to get the May 1 date was Dhanush produced Ethir Neechal which has Sivakarthikeyan and Priya Anand in the lead with hit music by Anirudh. Vendhar Films who are releasing Gouravam today (Apr 19), has told theatres that continuation would be Ethir Neechal on May 1.

The latest to join the May 1 bandwagon is the comedy riot Soodhu Kavvum featuring  Vijay Sethupathi and Sanchita Shetty  and distributed by the powerful Studio Green.

There are no theatres available in Tamil Nadu for the next one month, due to the boom in summer releases. Everybody is trying to get maximum screens, prime time shows and long runs. May 1 is going to be a bloody battle for screens between powerful distributors .
