Tovino Thomas, Aiswarya Lekshmi
You don’t feel anything dramatic, as we usually see in movies, when director Aashiq Abu’s Mayaanadhi begins. And it goes on just like that, as if you are being a witness to a real incident. It’s this poetry like beauty that keeps you engaged to this intense love story.
Mathan (Tovino Thomas) is a nice young guy, but with a shady background and in the company of all the wrong friends. After a rather serious incident, he goes to his ex-girlfriend Aparna aka Appu (Aiswarya Lekshmi), who is now a struggling model.

They were in the same college but had separated after he got involved in a financial fraud, cheating her well. But she still loved him. And he loved her too. Or did they have a true romantic feeling for each other, or was it just based on convenience? The movie deals with such intricate nuances of heart and hold on, there is more to the tale.
With amazing visuals, nice music and impressive writing by Shyam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair, Aashiq narrates a compelling story that will haunt you for long, even after you get out of the cinemas. The basic plot has perhaps shades of Godard’s 1960 classic Breathless but this has been packaged in a fresh, affecting way. The story takes its own time to unveil but perhaps that adds to the effect in a genuine manner.
In a spectacular display of talent, the lead pair of Tovino Thomas and Aiswarya Lekshmi invite you to their world that defies norms and make you feel for them. Their chemistry is fabulous and the actors perform with total honesty.
Mayaanadhi is the kind of film that goes straight into your heart and provides a variety of emotions. It’s romantic, funny and moving. It’s the kind of honest and realistic movie that is not to be missed.
