Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum

Director

Amudheshwar

Kalidaas, Prabhu, Ashna Zaveri, Pooja Kumar

If director Amudheshwar's Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum got released in 80's, audiences would have embraced it with open arms. Now things have changed a lot but sadly neither the young debutant actor Kalidaas, producer Sivaji productions or the director cared to update themselves with the current trend.

Annamalai (Prabhu) runs a reputed restaurant Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum in Malaysia and he has a college going teenage son Karthik (Kalidaas). Due to the generation gap, Annamalai fails to understand Karthik and at one of point of time, the latter's harsh words hurt his dad.

A family friend (Y Gee Mahendran) invites both Annamalai and Karthik to an island, where they meet a saint (Kamal Hassan). After listening to the issues, the saint swap the souls of both Annamalai and Karthik. Now the son is in dad's body and vice versa...

The concept of Amudheshwar is quite novel but his execution falls flat and  outdated. The first half of the film is terrible with silly romantic sequences and melodrama. In fact, the film picks up only after Kamal Hassan's arrival and the second half is quite passable with few comic moments but still, the content is catered to serial watching audiences and not for youngsters, who always looks for new age films.

As usual, Prabhu has played his part well as the caring dad while Kalidaas has to improve a lot as far as acting goes, but ends up giving a decent performance. The rest of the actors including Ashna Zaveri, Pooja Kumar, Urvashi and MS Baskar are just adequate.

Surprisingly Imman's songs are underwhelming and the same can be said about cinematography.

The bottom line is watch Meen Kuzhambum Mann Paanaiyum at your own risk.
