Memories

Memories

Jeethu Joseph

Prithviraj, Meghna Raj
Avg user rating:

A seriously alcoholic cop, who can't get over the disturbing visuals of the killing of his wife and daughter, is the main focus of director Jeethu Joseph's Memories.

Sam Alex (Prithviraj) was an efficient police officer until the tragedy struck his family. His mother and his younger brother are deeply concerned about his drinking habits and they react in their own ways. At a certain point of time, Sam has to take up a challenge. How he handles the case is what the story talks about.

As in his earlier films, Jeethu weaves too much emotion to the narrative. But the mystery behind an underlying suspense drama slowly takes over somewhere in between. And the slow paced narration in the beginning gets a momentum after a while and takes the viewer along to a thrilling phase.

It is tough to review a suspense drama without revealing any clues, which will in turn spoil the fun. So we will stay away from discussing more, but there is no denying the fact that this could have been a taut thriller, if the script was tighter.

Like, how do you explain a cop going around with a bottle in hand, then gets back to duty when needed and continue with his drunken drama even during the course of the investigation?

Such clichés may have been used to fit in to conventional formulae but Jeethu Joseph needs a pat on his back for presenting the investigation in a convincing manner. The writer-director has been experimenting with various genres and maybe that has helped him in keeping his thoughts really fresh.

Sujith Vasudev's camera, Sejo John's music and Anil Johnson's background score adds to the effect in a big way.

It's a treat for Prithviraj fans for sure, as the hero just rules the screen with a superb performance. It is to be appreciated that the actor in him has decided to go for meaningful roles of late, other than sticking to his comfort zone.

The heroines, Meghna Raj and Miya, have nothing much to do. The rest of cast has also performed well.

Memories may be far from perfect, but is an engaging film that has been well made. Grab a pack of popcorn, sit back and enjoy this entertaining thriller.

Verdict: Good
