Where did Kadal go wrong?

Mani Ratnam's latest film Kadal never really warmed up to the box office. He had A R Rahman and exceptional cinematography. Yet, everything from his script to the debutants were met with mixed reviews. Some loved it. Most were disappointed. Now, the distributors are asking for their money back.

Where exactly did Mani Ratnam go wrong? Let us know.

The movie did start brilliantly .nd i think mani got confused on how to go with the second half which was boring and had the audience boo. The second half should have been more gripping and tighter. dont know whether mani was in unchartered territory.we have all grown watching mani movies nayakan mounaragam anjali roja kannathil dilse guru etc. mani should come back to his core of urban movies portraying relationship/love .

film is a average movie compared to mani ratnam standards;and very wrong time to release in midst of viswaroopam; everyone was shell shocked seeing the harassment handed over by tn govt. to senior veteran kamal and wanted to see only viswaroopam; literally very very wrong time of release

Simple - it is time to Manirathnam to retire - thats it - Each director/actor have a life cycle because generation changes and change is constant - If a director keeps on harping his same pattern - Probability of film failing is high - that is what had happened to Kadal

According to me, a movie should have many sub characters. The story revolves around only 4 main characters. Even the displays repeatedly showing these 4 main characters only. People got bored by seeing this in the ads. Also, in this modern world, real surroundings should be given more priority rather than the scenery locations.

Kadal is a beautiful film... its not the first time a Mani Ratnam is falling at the boxoffice... Dil se, Iruvar, Yuva, Kannathil Muthamittal were flops... all these films were great & people realized the greatness much later... Kadal will be discussed in years to come..
