Is Malayalam superstar Mohanlal fishing for roles in Kollywood and why? The grapevine is abuzz that Mohanlal is open to the idea of doing one mass commercial film in Tamil every year.
Mohanlal is currently riding a wave as his Jeethu Joseph directed Drishyam has turned out to be the biggest blockbuster ever in the history of Malayalam films. And his Tamil film Jilla with Vijay took a fantastic opening.
The buzz is that he wants to slow down in Malayalam where he may never be able to better Drishyam record. So he has become choosy and may do only two or three films as a hero in Malayalam, where he normally does five to six films a year.
Remember a Malayalam film works on a budget and gets completed in 50 to 60 days.
Now Mohanlal if he slows down in Malayalam will have a lot of spare time, which he can use for his Tamil assignments. And commercially it makes sense for Mohanlal.
The actor takes a salary of around Rs 1.5 Crore in Malayalam, while he got the Kerala distribution rights of Jilla, as salary. Trade sources say Mohanlal made a killing from Jilla rights which fetched him a whopping Rs 4 to 4.5 Crore!
Sources say Mohanlal is open to the idea of doing more mass commercial films in Tamil with popular Kollywood stars. It makes commercial sense for the actor to do multi-starrer’s in Tamil and get Kerala rights as his salary.
