Mollywood and plagiarism

Malayalam cinema has been always known for its original story ideas and realistic portrayals.

All these are soon becoming things of past and now the Mollywood directors are getting inspired from other language films, if the ongoing trends are to signify.

Forget the music, even the scripts and screenplay of most Malayalam films are copied from Hollywood and Bollywood movies.

During recent years there have been several instances of copying. Like Cocktail made frame to frame from Shattered aka Butterfly on a wheel, Race from Trapped, 3 Kings from Dhamaal (which itself was copied from It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad world), Currency from The Man who copied and so on. There have been ‘official’ adaptations like Happy Husbands from No Entry, Unnam from Johnny Gaddaar and Beautiful from Guzarish.

Now the grapevine has it that more copies are all set to hit the screen. Bollywood films like Ek Hasina Thi, Wake up Sid and Shaadi No 1 are said to have inspired some of the forthcoming films, which are at the various stages of completion.

Adultery is the new mantra in M'wood!

Now, Malayalam has always been known for its own share of copies, but what is happening now is sure to affect the quality of films here. Let’s wait and watch for now!
