At the recent theater owners meet, it was announced that theaters across Tamil Nadu will be closed from March 16, if their demands are not met.
Theater owners want the Tamil Nadu Government to remove the 8% local body entertainment tax. Theater owners also want license renewal period to be extended to three years, they requested a flexible module to reduce the number of seats and they should be allowed to fix maintenance charges (Rs 5 for AC, RS 3 for non-AC theaters).
Though theater owners say that their protest is only against the Government, insiders see it as a revenge against Tamil Film Producers Council who have stopped all new releases from March 1. Sources say that theater owners are not showing their support to Tamil Film Producers, they are actually happy with the existing business agreement with the digital service providers.
Now, as theaters owners announced a possible shut down from March 16, Producers Council has also come up with an announcement that there will not be any film shoots from March 16, which has only lead to more chaos in Tamil cinema.
