Firaaq tells "a thousand true stories" of ordinary people, one month after the 2002 violence in Gujarat. It's a film that the world has taken notice of. But despite the accolades and the awards, it never really reached the theatres with the splash reserved for big-budget, mediocre movies.
At the IFFI, Goa, director Nandita Das was heard complaining: "People I meet often tell me... Firaaq... I have heard about it. Has it been released?"
