Dekho 2000 zamana aa gaya, the chartbuster of the New Year is here- just right for the first major millennium Hindi film release. Sung byLeslie Lewis, Hariharan and Aamir Khan, this is a vivacious and fun track. It goes all out to play gallery and succeeds. Remix king Leslie Lewis hascomposed the song and this is his only contribution to the album. Well, justone song, but he`s managed to make an impression. Hariharan`s voice soundsquite different from his normal, somber self.

But the real winner of this soundtrack is Dhadkan mein tum, sason meintum-- a well-orchestrated, passionate and romantic number sung well byold favourites Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. Sameer pens a few good poeticlines like kaise kaise kahen, dil mein kitne hain ghum/bhar do bhar do,mera har ek zakhm and the chorus in the background adds a haunting touchto the song.

The title track Mela Dilon ka has three versions -- celebration, theme and grand finale. Which can be interpreted as the introduction song, the background track and the climax number! The first version is the mostappealing and also the most popular one. It`s sung by Alka Yagnik, SonuNigam, Roop Kumar Rathod, Shankar Mahadevan, Jaspinder Narula, HemaSardesai, Nitn Mukesh and Anmol (whew!). The second, slower version is byAlka and chorus - thankfully. And the third and final version has SadhnaSargam, Abhijeet, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigamand Poonam adding their two notes to it.

Combined, all three versions manage to rope in the entire Bolllywoodline-up of playback singers - well, almost! Talk about too many singersspoiling the song or what?

Kamariya lachke re by Anuradha Paudwal, Udit Narayan and Abhijeetand Chori chori gorise by Udit Narayan and Abhijeet are both average tracks. Both songsprobably have more visual appeal than aural.

The rest of the album has two more situational songs - the first oneTujhe rab ne banayakamal is a romantic duet by Udit Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal. Theother track is adevotional Durga hai meri maa by Jaspinder Narula, Arvinder Singh,Mohd Aziz and TanviAzmi. Not really worth giving a ear to.

On the whole Mela stands out due to only two great tracks--Dekho 2000 zamana andDhadkan mein tum.
