Mynaa, a film by well-known director Nagashekar, has been declared a hit with the movie crossing the Rs 7 crore in collections. At an event organized to celebrate the successful run of the movie in the theatres, the distributor declared that the movie had collected Rs 4.5 crore in the first week itself.
One of the mostly-awaited movies of 2013, Mynaa received mixed response from the audience. Now, the movie has become a sleeper hit in the absence of any challenger in the theatres. Based on a true love story, as narrated by a senior police officer, Mynaa has Nithya Menen, Sarath Kumar and Chetan in the main star cast.
The film is produced by Sarat Rajkumar, who happens to be super star Puneet Rajkumar’s manager.
The movie was shot for a record 80 days in various parts of the state and has received great reviews for its technical brilliance. Cinematographer Sathya Hegde in particular has come in for a lot of praise. Choreography by Imran Sardhariya too is innovative making Mynaa a neat package.
However, a few aspects of the movie, such as treatment of the character played by Nithya Menen did not go well with the audience.
However, Nagashekar tried to justify the character and its challenges in vain. Nagashekar’s previous film Sanju Weds Geetha was an immensely successful at the BO. Consequently, the expectations from Mynaa were very high. But the film did not meet the same success as that of Sanju Weds Geetha. The Tamil and Malayalam versions of Mynaa are yet to be released.
