It is all about a guy Prem (Vijay Sethupathy) who gets hit by on the head by a beamer while playing a cricket match with friends. This results in temporary amnesia leading to short term memory loss! It happens just a few days before Prem is to marry his lover Dhanalakshmi (Gayathri)! His close buddies Bags (Perumal), Bajji (Rajkumar) and Saras (Vigneswaran) use their wits to hide it from his family and fiancée. The fun ride begins…
The director taking this incident which he says happened to his cameraman in real life as the premise for the film. He adds comedy twists and turns along with suspense weaved into the plot. Balaji is able to work out a decent script that keeps you smiling seeing the goof-up’s of Prem’s friends.
Balaji is a new wave Tamil director who believes more in the power of his script and the support of his cast to make the film work. The best part is that there are no songs, unnecessary comedy tracks or villains. He makes it engaging and entertaining with his straight forward story narration.
The scenes have been well conceived to put in that humour touch. The kind of things Prem does in a state of temporary amnesia is hilarious. The marriage reception scene where he does not even recognise his lover is hilarious. The hero ‘s constant one-liner ‘Enachu ?’ and his friends embarrassment makes it work.
On the downside the film with newcomers is too long and needs urgent editing. Scenes especially the marriage reception takes a long time which gives it a documentary feel to it. It looks like a stage play at times, and tires the viewers.
Vijay Sethupathy as Prem is the pillar of the film. He is a scream with perfect body language, the bewildered look and long pauses while speaking. The supporting cast are apt.
On the whole if you are looking for a fresh new experience in movies try out NKPK. It’s an enjoyable fun ride
Verdict – Good
