There were highly speculative media reports that Nayanthara is doing a cameo in Ajith’s directed Billa 2. However sources close to the actress ruled out her doing the Chakri Toleti directed film.
Remember Nayanthara’s rise to superstardom was through Vishnuvardhan directed Billa. Her role as Sasha, Billa’s moll was well written and after the release of the film she became the glamour queen of south.
The trouble with Billa 2 is that it does not have any top saleable heroines. Former Miss India Parvathy Omanakuttan a beauty queen of 2008 and Bruna Abdullah the Indian model of Brazilian and Arabian origin who are providing the “oomph factor” in the film, does not have any buzz around them.
It was after completion of the film that the producers woke up to the fact that you need a top glam girl to package the movie. Remember that in Mankatha, Venkat Prabhu made Ajith’s romantic scenes with Trisha and the way he flirted with glam girl Lakshmi Rai work big time with the audiences.
Suddenly Billa 2 producer who had outsourced production work to a third party realised the importance of a top heroine opposite Ajith. And now with Billa-2 releasing simultaneously in Telugu, the buzz is that they approached Nayanthara who will appear in the opening scene in a peppy item number tuned by Yuvan and then “disappear”.
If Nayan had opted to do the film at the whopping salary that the producers had offered, it would have jeopardised her second innings in Kollywood. Remember, she has already signed a film as heroine with Ajith to be directed by Vishnuvardhan for producer AM Ratnam.
The magic of Nayan’s return to the silver screen would have lost its fizz if she had done a cameo in Billa 2. The smart girl that she is, Nayan has made a wise decision.
