Nazriya Nazim who was touted as the next big thing in Tamil cinema, seems to be losing steam. After Neram and Raja Rani she was the toast of Kollywood, but lost it as she got entangled in a controversy with Naiyaandi film producer and director.
A few days before the release of Naiyaandi, Nazriya alleged that director Sargunan and producer Kathiresan has used a body double in a particular shot where her hip was shown. This created a furore and ultimately the scene had to be removed before release.
The Nazriya- Naiyaandi controversy came at a time when she was riding a wave following her Raja Rani success. Gautaman Bhaskaran, Hindustan Times critic had raved about her performance in RR - "The one person who caught my attention was Nazriya Nazim, who as Arya’s lover, Keerthana, is absolutely gorgeous with a face that is so expressive that we do not need her to speak”.
However unfortunately the controversies surrounding Naiyaandi did not help the film in any way and the film bombed miserably at the box-office. And with that the sympathy factor in Kollywood shifted to its director Sargunan and producer Kathiresan.
Nazriya overnight was projected as “troublesome”, and suddenly offers dried up and is also dropped from one film, which she was about to sign.
She has Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah with Jai and yet- to-start Jiiva starrer Nee Nalla Varuvada .
The grapevine has it that Nazriya is not interested to do another Tamil film and will now concentrate only in Malayalam where she started out as a child artist and television host. She is doing Salala Mobiles with Dulquer Salmaan and has also signed up three other films.
