Are you the kind who at the glance of a picturesque locale starts dreaming at the next moment, “can I go there sometime?” Now, are you crazy enough to imagine yourself riding a motorcycle to your destination, which is more than 2000 kilo meters away?

Director Sameer Thahir is teaching Malayalis to think in some curious ways with his new film, Neelakasham Pachakkadal Chuvanna Bhoomi. Deliciously shot and superbly narrated, this film is one of the most riveting movie experiences that you would have come across in Malayalam cinema.

Kasi (Dulquer Salmaan) and Suni (Sunny Wayne) are friends, who decide to go on a road trip to Nagaland, on their motorbikes. Of course, they have a reason for the trip. Assi (Surja Bala), a fellow student at the engineering college with whom Kasi was in love with, has returned to her home, somewhere in that North East Indian state.

It's never an easy journey but the conviction of the two, gives them the energy to go ahead. There are several incidents that happen in between. Their life until then is revealed through the flashbacks that are shown at various junctures.

In his likeable baritone, Dulquer says that “they say the road has answers for everything. But I have no questions. I was confused on identity, politics, happiness, freedom… The only thing I was always sure was that my destiny is my decision… And I chose to be with her.”

In fact, Kasi's struggles to find answers to various issues, ranging from politics, religion to love is what eventually prompts him to go for the ride. Though his attitude may not be acceptable to all, he is one youth who know what he is doing and he is ready to take the challenges head on, without any regrets.

Still, the rather bumpy ride towards the end gives the feeling that some fine-tuning there could have made the movie even more spectacular.

One can go on and on describing the film, but this is one movie that needs to be experienced to know its effect. Hats off to the entire cast and crew of the film, whose commitment is there to be seen in each frame.

Hashir Mohammed's script, especially the well-crafted lines need to be applauded. The visuals are top notch and the film's music sets the mood in a brilliant way. But then, it is the director's signature, which is right there that makes this film, a sincere attempt.

Giving his heart and soul to his character, Dulquer Salmaan comes up with a really impressive performance in the film. There is a fantastic intensity that takes the viewer along with him, in this eventful trip.

Sunny Wayne is witty and is really impressive with a restrained acting style. Manipuri actor Surja Bala, who is playing a Nagamese girl in the story, is extremely attractive and gives a fine performance. Veteran Bengali actor Dhritiman Chatterjee steals your heart with a matured show. The rest of the cast supports the film in a highly appreciative way.

This ride called Neelakasham Pachakkadal Chuvanna Bhoomi may have some shaky moments in between, but this is one movie that has been made with grit and passion. Two big thumbs up for this one.

Any lover of genuine cinema should make sure that you take this trip! It requires patience to appreciate it fully, but deserves a viewing because films like this are hard to find.

Verdict: Very Good
