No biggies for Summer 2013!

Mega budget films are obviously a big gamble.

Normally summer is the best season to release films with big stars in the lead.  In Kollywood, the months of April, May and first half of June are traditionally full of big superstar releases. Some of the biggest superstar hits have released during the summer holiday season.

However 2013 summer will not see a single big star movie hitting the screens. The reasons vary and industry experts say that major films are not releasing due to IPL 6. But for the past five years many big star films have released during IPL and still performed at the box-office.

Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan was expected on April 5 but post-production work is still going on and is now slated for a July release.

All major releases like Suriya’s Singam 2 which was announced as a April first week release has now been pushed as the film is yet to be complete.

Ajith’s tentatively titled Valai is still being shot and Vijay’s Thalaivaa shooting is going on in Australia.

Kollywood and IPL have made peace as they have to co-exist. There is no way out, as IPL has become one of the biggest sporting events in Cricket and months of April-May belong to it in the world cricket calendar.
