Mithun eats more rice for 'Nobel Chor'

Mithun Chakraborty hopes that the film 'Nobelchor' (Nobel thief) centering around the theft of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel Medallion from Santiniketen in 2004 might revive expectations of getting it back.

"The film seeks to give the message about the value of Tagore's Nobel to the Bengali and reminds about the failure to avert the theft. The film may revive hope of getting the medallion back," Mithun told PTI here.

"Nobel Chor", hitting theatres on February 17, is a fictional account of a poor farmer, who circumstantially gets involved with the stolen medallion.

The film is a journey which explores contemporary India by incorporating pitfalls of globalization, the rural-urban divide and the state of India's villages and explores the relevance of Tagore's philosophy in modern India.

Asked how he reacted after he first heard about the theft, the actor retorted, "just as any other Indian would have...!"

Questioned if he had expected some recognition for his much-acclaimed role in Bengali film "Sukno Lanka" by Gaurav Pandey, he said, "I don't think about national awards any more. Good acting is enough. I just want people to appreciate acting."

"I liked the script of Gourav earlier and Suman's execution of the idea also fascinated me. You know the audience gave a standing ovation when Nobelchor was screened at the Mumbai film festival!"

Asked if he would be balancing between mainstream Bengali films and critically acclaimed work, the actor replied, "cinema is cinema. All films have to be commercially successful. Wherever I work I want to give more than 100 per cent."

About "Spaghetti 24x7" by Pandey where son Mahaakshay is the assistant director, Mithun said, "Mahaakshay is shaping up well, he has been appreciated in 'The Haunted'. But I have told him he has to prove himself. One song recording of the film is still left. It will be ready soon."

Mithun has "Housefull 2" in Hindi directed by Sajid Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala featuring Ritesh Deshmukh, Boman Irani, Randhir Kapoor, Chunkey Pandey and John Abraham lined up for release.
