The magic of Erich Segal's famous novel Love Story never seems to end for filmmakers across the world. It has been made in many Indian languages possibly beginning with Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhe Se made under the Rajashree banner in Hindi many years ago. The film starred Sachin and newcomer Ranjeeta in the main lead. It was a tremendous hit at the box office but it did not lift the destiny of the screen pair in Hindi cinema in any way.
It was left to filmmaker Raj Mukherjee to embark on the Bengali version of this immortal love story. Riding piggyback on the popularity of films based on teenage love, I Love You in Bengali last year turned out to be a big hit may have been a major inspiration. He also made Nagordola and Raat Bhor, both about illicit relationships.
"I have been wanting to make a film on teenage love for some time. But this film will have a different kind of treatment though teenage love is the bottom line. The film will be spiced with some comedy as well," says Mukherjee.
The story is about Saheb and Nandini who are born in the same nursing home on the same day. But circumstances drive Saheb into the home of an untouchable dom who works in a crematorium while Nandini is brought up in an affluent home. By chance, one day Saheb comes to Nandini's house in connection with some painting job. The two fall in love and naturally, Nandini's father is not happy about it at all.
Varsha Priyadarshini from Oriya films, recently seen in Zor opposite Jeet, is playing the female lead in Mukherjee's film. Angsuman Parashar, an Assamese actor, is making his debut in Hindi films.
Mukherjee has also penned the lyrics and scripted the story authored by Randhir De. Shubhayu is doing the musical score while production design is by Sameer Kundu. Tapas Pal and Kharaj Mukherjee are playing two serio-comic characters in the film.
The film will have seven songs belted out by Amit Kumar, Kumar Shanu, Abhijeet and Priya Bhattacharjee. Some song sequences will be shot in Darjeeling.
