Oscar winners Gibney, Guggenheim earn DGA noms

Academy Award-winning filmmakers Alex Gibney and Davis Guggenheim are among best-directing nominees for documentaries at the Directors Guild of America Awards.

Gibney, an Oscar winner for "Taxi to the Dark Side," was nominated Wednesday for "Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer," about the former New York governor's sex scandal.

Guggenheim, who won an Oscar for "An Inconvenient Truth," was nominated for "Waiting for 'Superman,'" an examination of U.S. public schools.

Other nominees for the guild awards Jan. 29 are Lixin Fan for the Chinese labor portrait "Last Train Home," Charles Ferguson for the economic-crisis chronicle "Inside Job," and Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger for the war-on-terror film "Restrepo."
