The Tamil film trade has declared Bhagyaraj’s Parijatham a hit. The word-of-mouth and reviews have been encouraging that has brought in the family audience. The biggest advantage is that there is no strong opposition.
Traditionally, Bhagyaraj has the support of family audience and was strong in B and C stations though his last film Sokkathangam was a flop. Parijatham worked with the youth audience. The fresh romantic theme and the packaging helped the film to a large extent. It seems the director was helped by his daughter Saranya and son Santhanu who understood the taste of today’s audience.
Parijatham, a film with no big stars has done Rs 11.03 Lakhs from five screens in its opening weekend in Chennai. It is very strong in Coimbatore and Madurai which is good news for Bhagyaraj. And after the weekend, it is steady with a weekday (Monday and Tuesday) collection of 85 percent in Chennai. Nearly 60 percent of the audience are ladies which augers well for the movie.
Meanwhile the support of Sun TV is also helping the film as they are featuring Parijatham as the number one film in their ‘Super Ten’ countdown programme. Added to this ‘Oscar’ Ravichandran is marketing the film aggressively, as he has increased the number of prints from 60 to 75 for its second week.
