Parole review: Strictly for Mammootty fans!

Moves on highly predictable lines without much surprises and if you are fine with that, it could end up as a watchable fare

Director Sharrath Sandith’s Parole announces that it has been inspired by a true story, written by a former jail warden.

The story begins inside a jail, where Alex (Mammootty) is one of the inmates. As it is a norm for super heroes, he is the darling of not just the convicts but also the wardens. And if needed he can beat up the worst criminals with remarkable ease. In short, he is what you call, the complete man.

Blackmail review: Wickedly funny l A Quiet Place review: Jolts of absolute terror are intelligent, scary l Peter Rabbit review: A heart-warming animated tale

Except forone or two baddies, those who have been jailed are extremely decent men. Sometime later Alex’s story is narrated as a flashback.

When he was in his early teens, he had come to a remote village with his father (Alancier Ley) and settled there. His father also started the local unit of the Communist party, uniting the locals against an arrogant landlord.

After his father’s death, he takes care of his stepsister Katrina (Miya George), which creates tension in his family. But he is brave enough to ignore it all and toil hard in his land as a farmer. Alex also becomes the popular leader of theCommunist party there. After a while, he starts living with Annie (Ineya), with whom he falls in love in between.

With a script that is melodramatic to the core, the film looks old fashioned and follows a narrative pattern that would have been fine, maybe some decades back.

Mammootty performs his character quite earnestly and even though the film is totally focused on his character, this one barely challenges his acting credentials. Miya George and Suraj Venjarammoodu, who plays her husband, are impressive. Ineya has nothing much to do.

Parole moves on highly predictable lines without much surprises and if you are fine with that, it could end up as a watchable fare.

Parole review: Verdict- Strictly for Mammootty fans!
