'Perumthachan' director Ajayan passes away

Ajayan, who is well known for the only feature film that he directed, Perumthachan, died due to heart failure. He is the son of legendary playwright Thoppil Bhasi.

Ajayan studied filmmaking from the Adayar Film Institute and has assisted several acclaimed director including Padmarajan, Bharathan and K G George.

It was in 1990 that Perumthachan came out. The film fetched him the Indira Gandhi award for the best debut film of a director and the Kerala state film award for the best debutant director. Ajayan has said in an interview with Asianet on how he was dreaming about making M T Vasudevan Nair’s story, Manikyakallu into a film.

He has directed some documentaries as well.
