Pizza 2 Villa is trying to cash in on the franchise created by Karthik Subbaraj, as the producer is the same. Debutant Deepan’s Villa is a new film which has nothing in common with Pizza and is not even half as scary as the original.
There is nothing spooky about it, but technically chic. It is more a supernatural thriller that deals with paranormal activities and some contrived twists. The climax twist is for the franchise to probably have a part three.
Jebin (Ashok Selvan)is a budding writer waiting to get his work published. His long-time girlfriend Aarathy (Sanchita) is the only person who can handle his moods. Jebin is also upset that his father (Nasser) left him with nothing other than a villa in Puducherry. And when he reaches the villa, it unlocks some dark secrets.
The film does not have any real frightening moments that one expects from a film in this genre. It has also an open ended climax for a part three ? However technically it is one of the best films in recent times. The crisp editing of Leo John Paul at 1 hr 43 minutes makes it racy, fantastic BGM and short songs by Santosh Narayanan and great camera work by Deepak Kumar mixed with solid sound effects gives it that extra edge.
On the acting front it is a total let down as Asok Selvan and Sanchita are wooden. The trouble is that you expect a lot more frightening scenes from a film which is sold as Pizza 2. If it had more meat in the story and some frightening moments it could have been an eerie experience, that the audiences crave for.
