Actress Pooja Gandhi, who recently joined the BSR Congress, is expected to contest the forthcoming Assembly polls from a constituency in Raichur district where the party’s founder B Sriramulu has a strong community following.
At the time of joining the BSR Congress, Pooja made it clear that her decision was prompted because the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) had not assured her of a ticket to contest the polls. “What is the point in being a member of a political party without contesting the elections and serving the people?” the actress had claimed.
During a recent meeting of the party, it was decided that the party would field Pooja from Raichur district where Valmikis (community representing BSR Congress Founder Sriramulu) is dominant. Apparently, Pooja is expecting a cakewalk in the constituency. But elections in Karnataka are easier said than winning.
The electorate in Karnataka has shunned popular film stars in elections. Even a super star like Ambarish had to bite the dust in his own backyard in the last Assembly elections. Several other actors too failed to win the elections. Pooja is among the reigning stars trying to test her political luck. It is to be seen if she can break that trend of popular stars failing in front of the voters.
