She’s all set to make a splash in Kollywood with Seval releasing this Diwali. We catch up with the luscious Poonam Bajwa in a quick chat about her foray into Tamil cinema.
How did you enter films?
I was crowned Ms Pune about 3 years ago and after that I took up modeling part time while studying. When I went to Hyderabad for a ramp show once, the director of Mudati saw me and asked me if I was interested in films. I had just finished my12th and had a five month gap before college so I said yes.
Tell us about your career in Telugu?
So how did you take the plunge into Tamil?
I wasn’t very happy with there in the Telugu industry. Tamil films are more interesting and I have very high regard for them. I had put my career there on the backburner for a while. Tamil films happened when director Kadhir saw my pictures on the Internet and approached me. I was supposed to debut in Pollathavan but that did not work out. Then Hari sir’s Seval happened and here I am. I have also completed Thennavattu with Jeeva.
What has been your experience here so far?
Director Hari is wonderful and takes great pains to show us what to do. Bharath is a very efficient and dedicated co-star. I took a lot of pains to rehearse lines and to get the lip synch right but I am enjoying myself thoroughly.
So what are your plans for Tamil cinema now that you are here?
I want to do good roles where I can perform well. I want to act in good stories. I am doing very different characters in both my films at present. My next film is Saravedi with Jeevan.
