Another royal wedding looms as England's Prince Harry and American television actress Meghan Markle have announced they are engaged. The announcement came from Clarence Palace.
The couple met last year, and their relationship was confirmed by Kensington Palace in November after months of speculation, reports The Guardian.
The official statement posted on Kensington Palace's official Twitter handle read, "His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course."
Adding, "His Royal Highness and Ms Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms Markle's parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace."
Fifth in line to the throne Harry, 33, has been dating the 36-year-old star, who found fame in the US drama Suits, since the summer of 2016.
The couple's 16-month whirlwind romance blossomed when they met through mutual friends in London and the pair have been almost inseparable in recent months, with Markle said to have virtually moved into Harry's home at Kensington Palace, reported ANI.
The Suits actress was said to be in the process of moving to Kensington Palace amid speculation that Prince Harry could have already proposed.
Markle spoke openly about her relationship for the first time in a Vanity Fair interview in early September.
She noted, "We are a couple. We are in love. I'm sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us."
The wedding will be Markle's second. She was previously married to movie producer Trevor Engelson.
Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle with a three-stone diamond engagement ring that he designed himself.
The prince paid a touching tribute to his late mother as the ring features two diamonds from the collection of Princess Diana, who died in 1997 when Harry was 12.
The other stone is from Botswana, a country that is close to his heart. It's also a country the two lovebirds visited this summer to celebrate Meghan’s birthday.
The couple debuted the ring on Monday in Kensington Palace's Sunken Garden, where Meghan and Harry posed for official photos.
Suits stars Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht and creator Aaron Korsh also took to social media to wish the royal couple.
Adams, who plays Markle's love interest Mike Ross, shared the Kensington Palace tweet announcing the news.
"She said she was just going out to get some milk." with the engagement announcement attached. He later wrote, "Playing Meghan's television partner for the better part of a decade uniquely qualifies me to say this: Your Royal Highness, you are a lucky man and I know your long life together will be joyful, productive and hilarious. Meghan, so happy for you, friend. Much love."
Creator Korsh wrote,"Congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement. Wonderful news, I wish you both a lifetime of happiness. Love, Aaron"
Gabriel Macht, who plays Mike's mentor and Rachel Zane's colleague Harvey Specter, also congratulated the couple via Twitter.
"Congrats to @meghanmarkle and Prince Harry. Sending all my best for your upcoming nuptials and a long happy life together. #love," he wrote.
Wendell Pierce, who plays Rachel's father Robert Zane, shared an adorable post in which he gave Harry his "TV father's blessing."
Following the announcement of Meghan Markle's engagement to Prince Harry, global star Priyanka Chopra sent her best wishes to the royal couple.
The Quantico star took to Instagram to express her delight and congratulate her close friend 'Meg'.
"Congratulations to my girl @meghanmarkle and Prince Harry!! I'm so happy for you Meg! You deserve the best always..keep smiling that infectious smile. Xoxo," wrote the Baywatch star.
Priyanka has been touted as a potential bridesmaid when Markle ties the knot with Prince Harry next spring.
The two first met at a party in Toronto, Canada - where Meghan filmed Suits - two years ago.
