Priyadarshan, one of the pioneers among south Indian filmmakers who made it big in Bollywood is now all set to direct another Tamil film.
Priyadarshan, who made National Award winning films in Tamil like Siraichalai (Kaalapani) and Kanchivaram is now all set to make a film on AIDS.
Priyan in an exclusive interview to sify.com said : “ My next is a social awareness film on AIDS in Tamil with Prakash Raj and Shreya Reddy in the lead with 14 new actors in supporting cast. Santosh Sivan is the cinematographer, while Sabu Cyril will be the production designer and Beena Paul as editor. The film is an attempt to create awareness about AIDS, but will not be a morbid film, in fact I guarantee you that it will make you smile and has a very touching end.”
“A few years back I had discussed the one-line story with Aamir Khan to make it in Hindi. He loved it and asked me to complete the script first and approach him (Aamir) again. But it took me some time to finish the script which will now be made as a Tamil film” says the noted director who is coming back after a short break.
Prakash Raj and Shreya Reddy, who acted in Priyan’s art house Kanchivaram will be playing the lead roles in this untitled film and it will be produced by his former associate and director AL Vijay.
Priyan added: “The film will be shot in 20 days on a on a shoe-string budget of Rs 2 to 2.5 Crore on a pathology lab set which will be put up by Sabu. The artist and technicians involved are getting a salary but not their market rate as they are doing it for a cause.WE plan to finish the film in three months and probably premiere it at the Toronto Film Festival".
