When Puri Jagan began negotiations with the producers of his much-hyped action film, The Businessman, featuring Mahesh Babu and Kajal Agarwal, he was determined to buy the rights for it.
Though he faced stiff competition from various GEO channels, Puri was ready to even shrug out a whopping Rs 7 crores for it. He is currently pooling his resources and hopes to clinch the deal soon.
Typically, one channel bags the rights and spoils the excitement by showing repeated telecasts of a film, but Puri wants to rotate the film screening on various channels, at appropriate times, in a bid to gain more widespread viewership.
Puri is expected to charge a hefty fee for each screening to recover his money assoon as possible, said a close associate of his. Hindi channel `Colors` is usually the first to telecast most of the current blockbusters and other channels follow suit.
"Even clippings and songs fetch good money for a star-studded film," he said. If this is indeed the case, then Puri may have to forgo his reported pay cheque of Rs 5 crores and add in a few more crores to realize this unique dream.
