Cast: Shirish, Chandini, Jayakumar, Anupama Kumar
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Direction: Dharani Dharan

Album Analysis:
Singer: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Lyrics: Kabilan
‘Pattukutty’ is Yuvan Shankar Raja at his peppy best. With EDM backed arrangements led by synthesizers and the composer’s dribbling vocals, this becomes easily the pick of the album. The charanam portions are constructed in the form of a sine wave which is mesmerising to listen to.

Kaadhal Gaana
Singer: VM Mahalingam
Lyrics: Mohan Rajan
‘Kaadhal Gaana’ is something you’d have imagined Deva to come up with. VM Mahalingam unleashes his inner Gaana Bala and the resultant tune is an enjoyable departure from Yuvan’s usual style. The lyrics and their inherent funny nature tick their boxes too.
Shadow Theme
The ‘Shadow Theme’ starts off slowly with bells, chimes and reaches a halt after which it transforms into a synthesizer show. The duration is short and is likely to be used in the rerecording as part of the screenplay.

Gift of Life
Singer: Faridha
Lyrics: Mohan Rajan
‘Gift of Life’ plays out like the reserve tune of ‘Piravi’ from ‘Masss’. The backing arrangements are choir like with Faridha delivering a haunting rendition of what seems like a prayer song. A short but impactful number!

Naa Yaarunu Theriuma
Singer: STR
Lyrics: Mohan Rajan
STR’s resounding vocals go hand in hand with the EDM based orchestration Yuvan has structured for this number. The beatbox and synthesizer laced arrangements with a deadly drop are typical club materials. Will be interesting to see how this track gets played out in the film though.

On the whole, ‘Raaja Ranguski’ is yet another impressive album from Yuvan Shankar Raja who is going through a purple patch clearly. Tracks like ‘Pattukutty’ & ‘Gift of Life’ stand testament to the composer’s signature style and is refreshing to listen to.

Picks from the album: Pattukutty, Gift of Life
Album Verdict: Yuvan’s in good form! This album is yet another confirmation!
Album Rating: 3/5
