A few years ago, actor Rahul Roy had diversified to direction with MERA JOOTA HAIN JAPANI, starring Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff in lead roles. Produced by Sudhakar Bokode, the film had a lavish launch [in fact, one of the best launches then!], but the film didn't make much progress subsequently.
In between, Rahul started concentrating on his acting career, accepting a Marathi film assignment as well.
Well, after maintaining a low profile for a few years now, the AASHIQUI hero will launch his new film, which is reportedly inspired by an English film I AM SAM [Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer]. For those who're unaware, I AM SAM is a compelling story of a mentally-challenged father raising his daughter with the help of an extraordinary group of friends.
"The story rests on three principal characters — the man, his kid and a lady lawyer," Rahul tells me. For the main role, Rahul has already confirmed Manoj Bajpai, but is yet to finalise names for the remaining two characters.
Rahul is toying with the idea of casting Sushmita Sen as the lawyer, "but nothing is official yet. It's just a thought," he says. The film is expected to roll some time next year.
