Rain ruins summer party

The unexpected and untimely rains all over Tamilnadu has dampened the box office and opening of films like Arul and Jana!!

Both the films which released on Saturday May 1 took a bumper opening, but when the skies opened up on Sunday evening many people who had made advance reservations could not make it to the halls.

And on a rainy Monday and Tuesday, in theatres like Albert and Woodlands in Chennai where Arul and Jana are being screened, some shows were not full! In rest of the theatres screening these films all over Tamilnadu the condition was the same as rains played havoc and people could not make it to the theatres due to stoppage of bus service, waterlogged roads, overflowing drains and sewers and power cuts.

It is bad news as both the films carry only “Average” word-of-mouth report among fans. Added to that the meteorological department says that the rains will continue for the next three days. The shellshocked industry 'pundits' have no answer to the unusual rains as they were expecting 'Agni Nakshatram' (a fortnight of heat wave) as per Tamil astrological calender!

And more bad news is that Tamilnadu is under election fever as polling day (May 10) approaches and till the results are out (May 13) no one would be interested in going for a film!
