Rains dampen Diwali BO

The rains all over Tamil Nadu and particularly in Chennai and surrounding areas have dampened the Diwali mood at the box-office.

On Thursday, the day of Diwali in Tamil Nadu, when all the Tamil films released the sky was overcast with mild drizzle. Still theatres reported a 80 to 95 percent collection on an average for all releases put together.

But soon the heavens opened up on Friday morning and heavy showers were experienced throughout the day as collections dropped below 50 percent. Even a big Hindi film like Veer-Zaara was not houseful on the opening day due to heavy rains.

So rains have dampened the box-office and on the whole reports about Tamil releases are just average with no real super hits in the making. It is early days to determine which film is the front-runner but at the moment Ajit’s Attakasam followed by Simbu's Manmathan are the hot favourites.

The next three days with Monday being Id, collections are sure to pick up and will determine who will be the real winner. Watch this space!
