Raj TV has grabbed the Tamil television rights of Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan from its producers Madras Talkies and Reliance Big Pictures. The grapevine has it that the rights were sold for a whopping Rs 5 crore!

There was a stiff competition among all Tamil channels to buy Raavanan, as it is a Mani Ratnam film. The director’s films always had a better reach through television than theatre.

The Raavanan television rights is the second highest price paid for a Tamil film after Rajinikanth’s SivajI. For Raj TV it is their first step to buying big budget films, which always have better reach than small films.
