Exactly 10 years ago, a new face by the name Ramya (Divya Spandana) arrived on the big screen opposite Power Star Puneet Rajkumar in a movie titled Abhi. The movie, directed by Dinesh Babu, went on to become a blockbuster. Since then, Ramya never turned back and went on to achieve significant milestones. In the last 10 years, Ramya not only held on to her super star status, but carried the burden of delivering hits in the absence of a known face opposite her.
On April 17, when her movie Aryan opposite Shivarajkumar, was launched, Ramya appeared emotional recalling her entry into movies. She even tweeted “10 years ago this day my 1st film Abhi released! Life has gone by so fast.. Everything that has happened good & bad I've learned to take.”
Indeed Ramya has come a long way to become the BO queen and the highest paid actress in the history of Sandalwood. She entered the film industry when heroines from other language film industries were ruling the roost. The sentiment for a local Kannadiga heroine was strong and the audiences did not disappoint her by patronizing Ramya’s movies.
Though the actress had her share of controversies, they were masked by her screen presence and the performance of her movies. In the process, she has been part of multiple blockbusters, such as Aakash & Arasu (Puneet Rajkumar); Amrita Dhaare (Sameer Dattani); Mussanje Maathu (Sudeep); Datta (Darshan); Gowramma and Karate Veera Sura Sundarangi (Upendra) and many more. Very often Ramya is credited for the success of the movies.
The actress has acted in several and Tamil and Telugu movies as well. She has won a record number of awards for her movies and continues to do so, an indication of her maturing as an actor. Holding the fort in a volatile entertainment industry is not only daunting but nearly impossible. But Ramya has shown that it is possible to remain at the top.
