Vijay’s dad SA Chandrasekhar has recently revealed that both DMK and ADMK troubled his son Vijay because of his growth as a star and his strong fan base throughout Tamil Nadu.
Chandrasekhar said that he shared a friendly relationship with DMK Chief Karunanidhi. “When police refused to give permission for a welfare event conducted by Vijay’s fans, without any appointment my son and I met Kalaignar Karunanidhi to talk about our grievance. We had a friendly relationship and in fact, Kalaignar called those police officers and promised me that such incidents will not happen again. But police officers denied permission for another event and there were many troubles for Vijay’s films”, said Chandrasekhar.
On knowing that Vijay was opposed by DMK, late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa called SA Chandrasekhar and sought his support in 2011 elections. “Ministers O Paneerselvam and Sengottaiyan came to my house and said that Amma wants to have a word with me. When I went, Amma asked for Vijay’s support in the assembly elections and asked what we actually want. I told her that though we don’t want any personal gain, members of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam should be benefitted and asked 15 seats in the elections. Later, ADMK proposed that they could allocate 3 seats but we denied it. Later, Jayalalithaa wanted me to campaign in the 39 constituencies in which DMK was strong and also asked Vijay to given an interview supporting ADMK. I told her that I will be campaigning but Vijay is too young so let him concentrate only on films. Jayalalithaa also heaped praise on the work of Vijay’s fans. Out of 39, ADMK won in 38 constituencies ”, recalled Chandrasekhar.
“Later, we met Jayalalithaa Amma after she sworn in as Chief Minister, she asked whether Vijay would be interested in becoming Rajya Sabha MP but we told she could do whatever she feels good and all we wanted is a good governance”, said Chandrasekhar
But what really irked Jayalalithaa is Chandrasekhar’s interview saying that their help to form ADMK Government is like how squirrel helped Rama in building a bridge. Following Chandrasekhar’s interviews, Vijay’s films including Thuppakki, Kaththi, and Thalaivaa had faced release issues.
SA Chandrasekhar says that more than him, Vijay is well-informed about current politics. “I’m not sure whether he would come to politics or not but he is aware of all the political moves”, said SA Chandrasekhar.
