Santosh Sivan becomes first Indian to get ASC

The finest cinematographer in Indian cinema Santosh Sivan has become the first DOP (director of photography)  in Asia Pacific's to be awarded the prestigious American Society of Cinematographers (ASC)membership.

Please note in the world of cinematography ASC membership is like getting an Oscar.  ASC membership is an exclusive club. Top Hollywood cinematographers have the ASC prefixed along with their names on the title cards of their films. Santosh is the first Indian cameraman to get into the elite club of American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) membership.

Santosh’s name was recommended by Michael Chapman (ASC), the noted cinematographer who became famous for his two collaborations with renowned director Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. Chapman saw Santosh’s works (Terrorist & Beyond the Rains) and recommended his name.

Speaking to from the sets of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Thupakki in Mumbai, Santosh Sivan said: “I think it is a dream comes true to be part of American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). I have to thank all my directors like Mani Ratnam, Priyadarsan and others.”
