Sarabham-The upcoming Tamil movie directed by debutant Arun Mohan & produced by C.V Kumar has been grabbing all the eyeballs with its intriguing trailer & music. Sify.com had a chance to interact with the director of the movie Arun Mohan who is excited about the release of his debut vehicle. Here are the excerpts:
How did you come across C. V Kumar who has been producing many 'new wave' movies in Tamil cinema like Pizza, Pizza II, Thegidi, Soodhu Kavvum & Mundasupatti?
Well, it all happened because of my editor Leo John Paul who I knew right from the days when I used to assist Gautham sir. We literally started our career together. I got C.V Kumar's contact through him. I narrated the script to CV. Kumar sir & he was impressed with the script.
What do you have to say about the genre and USP of this movie?
This movie is actually a crime drama. Usually crime dramas are a bit darker & so is my movie. I think the screenplay is the main USP of this movie. It has been made in such a way that it is pacy & will keep the audience hooked. Because of the pace in the movie, the movie will feel like a crime thriller.
What does the title Sarabham signify?
Sarabham defines the different character streaks found among us. Be it-white, black, grey. When the audiences watch the movie, they will understand the significance of the title clearly.
Share us a few words on how the lead actors were roped in for this project?
I was impressed by Naveen Chandra's work in the Telugu movie 'Andhala Rakshashi'. I felt he would fit the lead role perfectly. The producer was satisfied with my choice as well. Then, we signed Naveen & he has done a terrific job in this movie. The selection of heroine actually took us some time. We were expecting a few character traits and we were also keen that the heroine should have no image barrier. At last, we zeroed in on Saloni Luthra who is a theatre artist from Delhi. We all know Narain sir is a superb actor. He felt the script was very interesting and agreed immediately to do this movie.
The cinematography looks strikingly different in the promos. Few words about that?
The cinematographer Krishnan had previously worked in 'Kalyana Samayal Saadham'. I got to know him through CV. Kumar sir & both of us shared a good vibe. 'Colors' play a major role in the movie. The character shades are represented through colors throughout the movie and we have used Blue, Yellow & Red as the theme of the movie. You will understand it after watching the movie.
Your father has been in the industry for quite some time. He has directed some movies too. What tips he gave you when he heard you are directing?
He doesn't know the script yet. He is waiting to watch the movie along with the audience. I was working under Gautham sir and he gave me some valuable tips. He advised me to be honest to the genre I’m working on.
