Veteran journalist Sashi Kumar is all set to don the greasepaint once again for director Pramod Payyannur’s Balyakalasakhi along with Mammootty. Remember he had done an important role in Mammootty’s Loud Speaker
Says Sashi: “I did Loud Speaker due to Mammootty’s insistance and after I read the script, it did seem interesting. Same with Balyakalasakhi. I play Al-Ameen Sahib, a freedom fighter who writes articles urging the people to fight for Independence. He maintains a deep bond with Majid, the character played by Mammootty. In the novel, the character of Al-Ameen Sahib is vague, but in the film, the character has been developed excellently. I could relate myself with Sahib’s character. Director Pramod was keen that I play the role. Although it is a commercial film, it has a middle of the road cinema feel.”
Balyakalasakhi, an adaptation of a Malayalam romantic tragedy novel authored by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer was originally published in 1944. The story is about a couple Majeed and Suhra who are in love with each other from childhood. Isha Talwar of Thattathin Marayathu fame plays the role of Suhara.
Produced under the banner of Livinart Film Factory, Balyakalasakhi has cinematography by Hari Nair. The music directors are K Raghavan Master and Shahabas Aman.
