Cop action thrillers are a favourite genre in Tamil cinema. Kathir who has been choosing content driven films is back with Sathru in which he plays an upright cop.
Kathiresan (Kathir) is a young cop who is known for his fearless attitude. he arrests the local MLA's son and doesnt spare his superior officer's (Marimuthu) son. In two years, Kathiresan gets suspended twice, thanks to his straight forward working style. When Kathiresan comes across a child kidnap case, he pins down one of the five criminals and successfully saves the kid. Pissed off by Kathiresan, the gang's head Prabha (Lagubaran) and four of friends take an oath to kill all the family members of the cop. Can they succeed?
Sathru belongs to the antagonist Lagubaran who is menacing with his looks, dialogue delivery and body language. The film's director Naveen Nenjundan seems to be inspired from Suseenthiran's Naan Mahan Alla, especially in establishing the five young criminals in the film. Kathir who was impressive in all his recent films is just adequate as a powerful cop.
The first half of the film moves at a rapid pace but the convenient screenplay and incoherent cuts affect the flow of the film. It seems like editor GK Prasanna has chopped off many unwanted scenes and songs to make the film racier. Heroine Srushti Dange has been only used like a junior artist while other supporting actors also fail to shine much.
Overall, Sathru is a functional cop thriller which has its moments and watchable for the racy presentation.

#Sathru - crisply made thriller which is engaging. The narrative holds your attention from debutant @naveennan. @am_kathir as full fledged action cop is riveting along with the "deadly" and menacing #Laguparan (watch out for him).

#Sathru - Cat & Mouse game btn a cop & criminal gang. Story begins from scene 1, very racy screenplay & cuts. Laguparan is d show stealer. Subtle perf from Kathir. No songs/Romantic portion. Crisp 2hrs. Issues - logic, Emotional Connect s missing. Can watch for d Genuine Attempt!

#Sathru 1st half - Going fine so far, as a gripping cop vs criminals story. Kudos to the director for staying away from needless commercial elements and keeping the entire focus on the core plot.. Looking fwd to a more heated 2nd half..
#Sathru Interval: Progressing well so far as a cat-and-mouse thriller. A focussed narrative where a cop battles it out with a gang of goons. Despite one or two dips, something keeps happening and that's a positive!
